 For the last eighteen years we have been using our in-house developed EPOS system, CAROL (Complete Accounting Records On-Line). So far, we have produced over 100,000 cash sales, over 6,000 invoices, and over 6,300 repairs. We feel that the time has come to either sell the product, or to introduce a partner to promote its use. The system is suitable for most trades. The system runs under WindowsT although it was developed under DOS. Supplies are readily available. No bespoke forms are needed. It handles cash and account sales, stock control, sales and purchase ledgers, petty cash and cash book, repairs accounting and production of job sheets, and maintains databases of customers and suppliers. In addition there is a special order system and a staff message system. A payroll system is incorporated, although this would need updating to take account of legislation changes. The system is pass-word protected so that staff need proper identification to enter various levels - this prevents untrained staff accessing parts of the system that they should not see. Password structure is set by management, as it may vary business to business. Installment purchases are handled, and gift vouchers can be produced. Each stock item has an individual history including dates of purchase and sale, cost and selling prices, and the relevant identifications (delivery note or invoice numbers, cash sale or sales invoice numbers, and supplier). The system is intuitive in use, with the result that staff training is brought to an absolute minimum, and even junior level staff should be up and running with only a few minutes instruction.
